Admission Types & Application Tips

Before you apply for admission, find your admission type below to review the application materials required to complete your application.


FIRST-YEAR STUDENT

A first-year student has not attended any college, university, technical or proprietary school after graduation from high school. If you have taken college coursework while in high school (College Credit Plus), you will apply as a first-year student.

TRANSFER STUDENT

A transfer student has enrolled in a college, university, technical or proprietary school after graduation from high school, but has not completed a bachelor's degree. You are still considered a transfer student even if you don't think your previous credits will transfer to Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ State.

GUEST STUDENT

Also known as a visiting or transient student at some institutions, a guest student may be defined as either:

  • a student enrolled at another institution yet wishes to take courses at Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ State University. Usually this student wants to take courses at Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ State for one semester or over the summer and then return to their home institution.
  • a student who wants to take a limited number of courses for credit (maximum 18 credit hours) for personal enrichment and has no interest in pursuing a degree.

GUEST APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS


POST-UNDERGRADUATE STUDENT

A post-undergraduate student has received a baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited college or university (this includes students who attended another college after graduating from Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ State) and wishes to take additional undergraduate courses.

POST-UNDERGRADUATE APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS


FORMER KENT STATE STUDENTS

If you have taken classes at Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ State University in the past, you may not need to apply for admission.

REENROLLMENT

You are a former Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ State University student who has been away from the university for at least one year, was not dismissed from Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ State, and did not attend any other college or university taking undergraduate courses since leaving Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ State. You'd now like to reenroll at Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ State.

REENROLLMENT INSTRUCTIONS

REINSTATEMENT

You were academically dismissed from Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ State and would like to be reinstated. You should expect to be away from the university for a minimum of 12 consecutive months before reinstatement can be considered.

ONLINE DEGREES

You would like to pursue a degree program offered completely online. Students may complete undergraduate university requirements and Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ Core courses at Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ State University at Stark or any campus/location, and the major requirements online. The degree would be awarded by the approved campus or college. Additional fees are assessed for online courses.

VETERANS

You are a veteran or active member of the U.S. Military.

  • Apply for admission as one of the admission types above.
  • All veterans, active duty, reserve and national guard soldiers will have the $40 admission application fee waived.

COLLEGE CREDIT PLUS

You are a high school student who wishes to participate Ohio's College Credit Plus program, allowing qualified 7th- through 12th-grade students to take college-level classes.

You are an Ohio citizen 60 years of age or older and would like to take university classes.

GRADUATE STUDENT

You want to pursue a master's degree after earning your undergraduate degree. You will apply for admission through Graduate Studies at Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ State.

All international students must apply online through International Admissions at the Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ Campus.
