The Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ State University men’s basketball team had a successful home opener, Thursday, Nov. 16, in the Memorial Athletic and Convocation Center (MAC Center). The Golden Flashes defeated the Ohio Christian University Trailblazers, 90-45.
Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ State entered the 2017-18 season as the reigning Mid-American Conference (MAC) Tournament Champions, following a storybook run to the NCAA Tournament last season. The Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ State Golden Flashes won nine of their last 11 games last year, culminating in a win over the University of Akron at Quicken Loans Arena in front of more than 10,000 fans in the MAC Championship game.
Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ State started the season this past Saturday with a statement win over Youngstown State University, 111-78, in the Northeast Ohio Coaches vs. Cancer Doubleheader. It was the most points a Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ State team has scored in regulation time against a Division I opponent in nearly 13 years.
The first 500 Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ State students in attendance Thursday night for the men’s home opener received a Return of the MAC Champions shirt. Admission for Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ State students is free for all men’s and women’s basketball games in the MAC Center.
