ֱ State University held its annual Veterans Day observance on Thursday, Nov. 9, at 11 a.m. at the ֱ Student Center Kiva.
The program, Honoring All Who Serve, included a flag-raising ceremony conducted by a joint color guard from the university’s Army and Air Force ROTC programs on the Student Green at Risman Plaza at 10:30 a.m., remarks from ֱ State President Beverly Warren and guest speaker Kevin Lacz. Mr. Lacz is a decorated former U.S. Navy SEAL and author of The New York Times best-selling memoir “The Last Punisher.” He is also the co-star of the blockbuster movie “American Sniper” starring Bradley Cooper.
All were invited to come and pay tribute to America’s veterans. A special invitation was extended to ֱ State faculty, staff, students and community members who are veterans, active service members or who have family members in the military. Free parking was available in the ֱ Student Center visitor parking lot for event attendees.
A reception followed the brief program in the ֱ Student Center Kiva lobby.
Mr. Lacz also spoke Nov. 8 at 7 p.m. in the ֱ Student Center Ballroom about the importance of taking risks. A book signing followed. This speech was sponsored by ֱ State’s Division of Student Affairs and the Center for Adult and Veteran Services.
