Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ State University’s Minor in Computer Information Systems allows students to enhance their education with specialized knowledge in computer information systems studies. This minor provides additional career prospects in the computer information systems sector.
The Computer Information Systems minor is self-contained and assumes essentially no prior experience with the usage of information systems (IS) and digital technologies in organizations. It complements students’ primary career field by providing foundational knowledge, hands-on experience and information technology (IT) and business managerial skills in digital transformation management and/or the design of innovative information systems that are commonly used in organizations to create business value.
This up-to-date minor offers a techie-for-future IT and business managers structure starting with an introduction to IS and emerging digital technologies (e.g., social media, mobile, collaborative tools). The minor continues providing the foundations and hands-on activities to use IS and digital technologies for solving business problems. The academic backbone of the minor concludes with the pillars of business modeling and agile design and artificial intelligence-based innovation.
Students can complete two possible minor elective tracks: Designing Innovative Information Systems or Digital Transformation Management. Alternatively, the student can customize the major elective path by selecting 9 credit hours from the list of major electives in a flexible and student-centric way. The Digital Transformation track focuses on providing the knowledge and managerial skills related to managing cybersecurity, managing agile digital transformation projects and on how to lead and manage digital transformation. The Designing Innovative Information Systems track focuses on providing the technical foundations and skills to design innovative programs and apps, design innovative server-side systems and design databases and data governance.
Admission to a minor is open to students declared in a bachelor’s degree, the A.A.B. or A.A.S. degree or the A.T.S. degree (not Individualized Program major). Students declared only in the A.A. or A.S. degree or the A.T.S. degree in Individualized Program may not declare a minor. Students may not pursue a minor and a major in the same discipline.
To declare the Computer Information Systems minor, students must have a minimum 2.250 overall Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ State University GPA. No Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ State University GPA is required if the student is a first-semester freshman or transfer student admitted in good standing.
