Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ State University will welcome prospective students to campus for its Preview KSU events on Oct. 25 and Nov. 1. These comprehensive visit programs offer high school and transfer students an immersive look at life as a Golden Flash.
LeAnn Starlin Nilsson, Ph.D., director of University Orientation & Visit Experience, told Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ State Today the events are crucial for students exploring their college options.
"Preview KSU happens several times throughout the year," Starlin Nilsson said. "It's an opportunity for prospective students to visit campus, explore majors and connect with our academic departments."
The daylong events begin at 9 a.m. in the Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ Student Center Ballroom. Attendees will participate in a welcome presentation, attend a resource fair and meet with representatives from academic colleges.
From 11:15 a.m.-12:15 p.m., each academic college hosts presentations, some in their respective buildings. This allows students to experience different areas of campus and interact with faculty and current students.
A highlight of the visit is the tour of the beautifully updated model residence hall rooms. This year, Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ State has implemented changes to its housing selection process.
"Students will have the opportunity to make really specific choices, like down to the bed they want in a specific room," Starlin Nilsson explained. "It's a wonderful resource that not many campuses have."
Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ State prides itself on being transfer-friendly, and Preview KSU caters to these students as well.
"We definitely welcome transfer students," Starlin Nilsson said. "We realize that sometimes the college process is difficult, and you may not find your academic home the first time around."
The university encourages all members of the campus community to help make visitors feel welcome during these events. Starlin Nilsson suggests wearing blue and gold, being ready to answer questions and assisting with directions.
"Often the feedback we get from guests is 'everybody's so nice and helpful,'" she said. "I think that really speaks to our core values.
