Senior Construction Management major David Green is the recipient of the Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ State University Leadership Center’s Student Leader of the Month.
Green currently serves as president for the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity. Before this role, he served as Vice President of recruitment for two terms. The Student Leader of the Month program seeks to recognize students for excellence in leadership through campus and community involvement.
Matthew Clark nominated him.
He said:
"The first word that comes to mind with David's leadership style is passion. While serving as VP of recruitment, David's love for his fraternity brought new members in, and now as president, he is leading the fraternity forward. I greatly admire his interpersonal leadership skills, and he makes sure everyone feels safe and at home in our community. As president, leading the executive board, he makes sure all members, new and old have a say in the decisions being made and encourages younger brothers to run for leadership positions and get as involved as possible. In regards to the community aspect, Covid-19 has not been easy for anyone, and Greek life is no different; throughout the fall, he helped guide our chapter through a tough time of transition, and now his hard work is paying dividends as we see our chapter begin to thrive again. Regarding the intrapersonal element of the leadership model, David is not the leader who sits there and tells others what to do; he leads by example and works alongside brothers to accomplish common goals. He is one of the hardest working people I know, and nobody is more deserving than him for student leader of the month."
Green was both honored and humbled at the award.
"Before coming to college and joining a fraternity, I was extremely shy and had a very difficult time speaking in front of just a handful of people," he said. "After a very short time in the chapter, I came out of my shell and it changed everything for me; I am extremely honored to be awarded the Student Leader of the Month."
For being Student Leader of the Month, Green will receive a commemorative certificate, a Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ State t-shirt, a $15 gift card to the Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ State bookstore, along being recognized on the Leadership Center website, monthly newsletter, and the @Ñý¼§Ö±²¥StateLeads Instagram page.
