����ֱ�� State University graduate and award-winning photojournalist Matthew Thayer has spent the past 43 years in Hawaii, working as a photojournalist for The Maui News newspaper. When Thayer was sent out to cover horse evacuations from the upcountry fires on Maui on Aug. 8, he never expected he would end up covering one of the worst natural disasters in Hawaii’s history.

����ֱ�� State University Paris American Academy will not be open for students for fall 2023, but the program will resume operations in Paris, France, in January 2024. The students who registered for fall 2023 classes at the Paris American Academy can attend the New York City Fashion campus or ����ֱ�� State Florence in Italy. 

Teachers from northeast Ohio and from thousands of miles away in sub-Saharan Africa have been learning to create inexpensive math teaching tools thanks to the efforts of some ����ֱ�� State University professors. 

����ֱ�� State University is hosting 39 international graduate students for the Fulbright Pre-Academic Program, a monthlong immersion in American higher education and culture. 

For five decades, the ����ֱ�� Blossom Music Festival has nurtured young artists from all over the globe, giving them the opportunity to grow as musicians and collaborate with some of the world’s most talented musicians and teachers. With 12 performances on the calendar, the 2023 season of the ����ֱ�� Blossom Music Festival runs through Aug. 6.

Delegates attending Peace Education in an Era of Crisis spent three days learning from each other and from the example of the Rwandan people on how to create lasting peace. The conference, which took place July 11-13 in Kigali, Rwanda, was sponsored by ����ֱ�� State University’s School of Peace and Conflict Studies, ����ֱ�� State’s Gerald H. Read Center for International and Intercultural Education, the University of Rwanda’s Centre for Conflict Management, and the Aegis Trust, a nonprofit organization dedicated to ending genocide and other atrocities in the world. 

����ֱ�� State students in Rwanda visited an opportunity center for women and one of the country's national parks. 

Barbara J. Wien, a senior professorial lecturer in the School of International Service at American University in Washington, D.C., where she teaches alternatives to war and violence, was fresh out of college when she made her first visit to what was then, ����ֱ�� State University’s Center for Peaceful Change. She was both a keynote workshop presenter and an active participant in the ����ֱ�� State-sponsored conference, “Peace Education in an Era of Crisis,” which took place July 11-13 in Kigali.

����ֱ�� State visitors viewed mountain gorillas in Rwanda’s Volcanoes National Park as guests of the Rwandan National Police, who provide security for the park and these endangered animals.
