Run The World Flyer

The sixth annual Run the World 5K run/walk to sponsor Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ State University’s study abroad scholarships is going virtual this year. For the first time, fans of Run the World from all over the world can participate remotely in this event designed to support student participation in international education. Participants will complete the 5K on their own time and at their own pace. Organizers invite participants to show their Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ State pride by wearing blue and gold during their run/walk and sharing their photos from all over the world with the Run the World community.

Kiana Duncan, ‘18, developed a passion for traveling during her time at Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ State University, always taking advantage of every opportunity she had to study abroad and get new experiences. Upon graduating with a bachelor’s degree in Journalism in 2018, Duncan has been able to turn that love into her career.

The English as a Second Language (ESL) Center at Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ State recently moved its English Conversation Partner program online. Once an in-person activity only, the program’s transitioning to a remote environment has actually opened up new opportunities, such as involvement from alumni and additional unique groups and students being able to connect with their language partners regardless of their physical location.

Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ State’s David Costello is passionate about identifying what trace metals lie within Northeast Ohio’s streams and what the effects of these metals are on the surrounding environment. Costello, an associate professor in the Department of Biological Sciences, received a $718,000 grant from the National Science Foundation to study these important trace metals. The grant is awarded as part of the National Science Foundation’s Faculty Early Career Development (CAREER) Program.

Alumnus Andrew Konya, '10, graduated from Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ State University with a degree in physics and started chiseling away at what is now his company, Remesh, in 2013. Remesh, has gone on to receive  to continue expanding and creating solutions.

We are here to help. That was one of the main messages international students at Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ State University heard during a held July 9 to help answer questions and share the university’s response to a recent announcement by the federal government regarding Fall 2020 international student enrollment requirements.

Richmond Nettey, Ph.D., professor of aeronautics in Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ State University’s College of Aeronautics and Engineering, has been appointed the new chair of the Transportation Research Board Standing Committee on Airport Terminals and Ground Access at the National Academy of Sciences in Washington, D.C.

10 Questions about Contact Tracing App With Gokarna Sharma

Apple and Google partnered in early April to create a new smartphone app that uses Bluetooth to track coronavirus cases. Using a technology called contact tracing, the app alerts a user when they come in contact with someone who has been positively diagnosed with COVID-19. Gokarna Sharma, assistant professor in Computer Science, recently answered 10 questions about the new app based on his professional opinion. Sharma is experienced in algorithms, blockchain and smart technologies such as this.
