Leadership Center Names Hannah Call February 2022 Student Leader of the Month

Junior nursing major Hannah Call is the recipient of the ֱ State University Leadership Center’s February Student Leader of the Month.

The Student Leader of the Month program seeks to recognize students for excellence in leadership through campus and community involvement. This month, Call earned the spotlight for her leadership skills as an Honors student and president of the Delta Gamma sorority. She also works at Mercy Health’s St. Elizabeth Hospital in Youngstown as a student nurse and is ecstatic to begin her career.

“Getting the award made me feel great,” Call said. “I now know I’m moving in the right direction with my chapter and things like that.Personally, I have grown so much as a person over the last couple of years, so I'm really passionate about character development and becoming the best version of myself every day.”

Though the recognition is rightfully hers, she exudes a deep appreciation for her sorority and credits them for most of her growth.

“I feel like the opportunities that Delta Gamma has given me have let me tune in on my leadership skills and allow me to be a better listener, a better sister and overall, just a better person,” Call said. “So I'm really excited and honored to be nominated.”

Haley Corley, graduate assistant at the Center of Student Involvement and Delta Gamma sister, nominated Call because of her impact.

"As her advisor, I have watched Hannah grow immensely as a leader over the past year,” Corley said. “She currently serves as the president of Delta Gamma here at ֱ State and her commitment to providing members with a positive, worthwhile membership experience is apparent in everything she does.”

More than anything, Corley nominated her because Call exemplifies ֱ State by constantly putting others first.

“I see her not only taking steps to improve her own personal leadership, but also trying to uplift those around her to be great leaders as well,” Corley said. “She includes a lot of team dynamics, introducing leadership development to her sorority by promoting events on campus, so that they can also get the most out of their leadership experiences within their positions, as well as within the chapter.”

Outside of her sorority, Call wants fellow students to know that it can be hard to first put yourself out there, but in the end it will pay off.

She recommends that students who are struggling should get involved and go to the Leadership Center on campus because of the plethora of programs available there.

For being selected Student Leader of the Month, Call will receive a commemorative certificate, a ֱ State t-shirt, a $15 gift card to the ֱ State bookstore, as well as being recognized on the Leadership Center website, monthly newsletter and the .
