The Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ State University School of Information hosted the 2nd biannual Marantz Picturebook Research Symposium on August 5 to 7, 2018, at Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ State.

"Comics and the Graphic Narrative: The Future of the Movement was the theme of this event, which featured keynote addresses from comics and graphic novel artist P. Craig Russell, researcher Carol Tilley, Ph.D and cartoonist and animator Rafael Rosado

According to Ken Marantz, professor of art education at the Ohio State University from 1971 to 1991, picture books (which he spelled as one word) are “such rich repositories of visual art, so readily available compared with the resources housed in galleries and museums, that I believe we must take the fullest advantage of them.â€

Ken and Sylvia Marantz have graciously funded a biannual scholarly picture book research symposium to be organized and hosted by the Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ State University’s School of Library and Information Science. The Marantz Picturebook Research Symposium honors the couple's lifelong dedication to the art of the picture book.

Presentations included original, interdisciplinary research in areas related to comics and graphic novels.
