Case Study: VCD Website
Client
Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ State University’s School of Visual Communication Design
Project
Website Redesign
Duration
March 2013–August 2013
Description
The website redesign involved the team of Valora Renicker, Larrie King, Brent Carlson, Alison Farone, and Chris Hallahan. The main goal of the site was to clearly communicate the mission of the School of Visual Communication Design (VCD), showcase the program, and provide resources for current and future students. The team had several target audiences to hit: current students, prospective students, parents, and alumni. Creating a look that targeted all of these while making information clearly accessible to each became a major focus of the project. Because of the site's implementation into CommonSpot, they also had to stay within Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ State University's branding guidelines for academic websites.
Farone describes the site's design as "simple, clean, and fresh". She shared that the team looked at other Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ State academic sites like CAED and MDJ for inspiration to keep a consistent look. The color choices were based upon VCD's branding for both color and typography. The simplistic nature of the site and color palette allows for the work to be showcased, something important to a major based in visuals.
The site was implemented by Larrie King and Chris Hallahan in August of 2013.
