Advanced Spanish Language and Culture Immersion in Cordoba, Argentina

This intensive Spanish language program will take you to the Southern hemisphere in Córdoba, Argentina! In this program, you’ll have the chance to develop your Spanish language skills through intensive classes while earning 6-credits towards your degree at ֱ State. You’ll also be immersed in Argentina’s rich culture and language through class excursions around the city and by living with a host family.

Program Highlights

Immerse yourself in Spanish language and culture while earning 6 credits towards your ֱ State degree. This intensive language program is offered for students at the advanced language level.

Students will take classes in the morning and then participate in cultural activities in the afternoon, such as visits to museums, a cooking class, and language exchange meetings. Excursions to Estancia El Rosal and Alta Gracia may also be included.

​​​​​​​Program Fee Payment Deadline: The program fee will be billed to your ֱ State student account in April. The program fee deadline aligns with the Financial, Billing and Enrollment Center's summer due dates. You should refer to the first Summer 2025 due date.

Application Process

You will need to complete a ֱ State Education Abroad application. These quick steps will help walk you through the process.

1. Start an Education Abroad Application

When you click the "Apply Now" button (located towards the top and bottom of this page), you will be brought to the Education Abroad application system where you can view program costs and start an application. Be sure to submit your application before the deadline!

2. Guest Application (If applicable)

Are you a student at another university? To apply for a ֱ State education abroad program, you will first need to apply for admission to ֱ State University as a “Guest Student”. Please apply as either an “Undergraduate Guest Student” or as a “Graduate Guest Student”, depending on your course level.

Once you have applied and been accepted as a ֱ State University student, you will receive an email with your FlashLine login credentials. Activate your account and then proceed to the next step, which is to apply to the Education Abroad program of your interest. You can return to this page and follow the “Apply Now” button to start that application.

3. Wait for Acceptance

Once you have submitted your study abroad program application, it will be reviewed by the faculty leader. Applications are evaluated on a rolling basis. You should hear back from us within one month.

4. Commit to the Program

If you are accepted, you need to log back into your application by going to and clicking LOGIN. Once you see the name of your program, you need to click on it and commit (i.e., accept your offer of admission). 

Academics

This program offers two courses for a total of 6 credit hours towards your ֱ State degree. One course is a ֱ State University Spanish course. The second course is through  and will be transferred back to ֱ State.

  • Course Description:  This course, offered through KSU, comprises the evening hours and will usually vary from 1 to 3 hours (although on some occasions they will extend to 5-6 hours when we have more than one activity). Students will be required to complete predeparture assignments as well as assignments while in Argentina. 
  • Pre-Requisites: Any 30000-level Spanish course

Eligibility

  • Minimum 2.5 GPA
  • Open to students who have completed at least one 30000-level Spanish course.  An interview in Spanish will be required for admission into the program.
Transferring Credits

Transfer Credits

With this program, students enroll in courses at a partner (host) institution. You will need to transfer the credits you earn abroad back to ֱ State University.

Upon successful completion of the program, the host institution will issue you an official transcript, which will be needed for the credit transfer process.

You must earn passing grades on the courses you take abroad for the credits to transfer. 

Prior to departure, students will meet with their academic advisor to complete a Transfer Course Planning (TCP) Form, which will outline the courses you plan to take while abroad and how the courses will transfer to ֱ State University. 

Some courses have already been pre-approved for transfer to ֱ State and can be viewed on the Transfer Credit Guide. Please note that this is only a guide and is NOT a comprehensive list of courses available at each partner institution.

Credit Approval

Prior to departure, it is your responsibility to meet with your academic advisor to discuss the courses you plan to take while abroad.

If a course needs to be evaluated for transfer, you are responsible for working with your education abroad advisor to obtain the syllabus and have it reviewed by ֱ State faculty.

Córdoba, Argentina

Córdoba is the capital of the province of Córdoba in Argentina. It is a beautiful historical city known for its Spanish colonial architecture. With a population of approximately 1.6 million, Córdoba houses one of the oldest universities in South America, the Universidad Nacional de Córdoba. It is also home to the Manzana Jesuitica, a UNESCO World Heritage Site complex of churches and the original university campus from the 17th century. The city’s center accommodates the Plaza San Martín and the stunning Cathedral of Córdoba.

The city of Córdoba is known as the city of learning and it heavily represents the Jesuit history and culture. When studying in Córdoba, students will encounter Spanish speakers, as well as people speaking a regional dialect called the Cordobés (Cordoban Spanish). Besides the Universidad Nacional de Córdoba, the city of learning has a total of 7 universities, and because of it, it is considered to be the educational capital of Argentina. Its nickname is La Docta (which means The Scholarly One) due to its historic reputation of scientific and academic excellence. It is home to over 200,000 students, making it one of the most liveliest and youthful cities in South America! Córdoba is world renowned for its leather manufacturing, as well as for having the world's largest olive plantations!

A group flight is included in the cost of the program fee. Transportation to and from the airport as well as program excursions is included.

Pre-Departure Orientation

Prior to your study abroad experience, you will participate in a mandatory pre-departure orientation hosted by the Office of Global Education. During this orientation, you will be provided with information including but not limited to:

  • international travel procedures;
  • in-country resources;
  • health and safety resources and information;
  • culture shock and resources to help prepare for living abroad.

All students are encouraged to register with the prior to departure.

In addition, we encourage you to visit the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) travel page for for traveling to your destination(s).

If vaccinations or medications are needed according to the CDC, you should make arrangements for appointments with your healthcare provider or the DeWeese Health Center as soon as possible. Appointment openings at the DeWeese Health Center are limited and vaccines may need to be ordered, which takes time. Please note that not all immunizations are available at the DeWeese Health Center.
