Funded Appointments for Graduate Students

Ph.D. students on appointment receive Teaching Fellowships, which require approximately 20 hours of service per week and provide a nine-month stipend of $17,000 and a nine-month tuition waiver for a maximum of 9 credit hours per semester. 

Fellowships are renewable for up to three additional years, assuming that the appointee maintains acceptable academic standing. Appointees must be enrolled for at least 8 credit hours per semester. Teaching Fellowships are awarded competitively every spring based on the pool of applicants for fall admission, and require no additional materials for consideration. Continuing Ph.D. students who are not on appointment may also apply for Teaching Fellowships. Applications from continuing students are typically due in late January; see the Graduate Studies Coordinator for details.

M.A. students on appointment receive Graduate Assistantships, which require approximately 20 hours of service per week and provide a nine-month stipend of $12,000 and a nine-month tuition waiver for a maximum of 9 credit hours per semester. Assistantships are renewable for one additional year, assuming that the appointee maintains acceptable academic standing. Appointees must be enrolled for at least 8 credit hours per semester. Graduate Assistantships are awarded competitively every spring based on the pool of applicants for fall admission, and require no additional materials for consideration. Continuing M.A. students who are not on appointment may also apply for Graduate Assistantships. Applications from continuing students are typically due in late January; see the Graduate Studies Coordinator for details.
