Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ State University’s Minor in Teaching and Learning with Technology allows students to enhance their education with specialized knowledge in teaching and learning styles utilizing technology. This minor provides additional career prospects in the educational technology sector.
Technology continues to influence how we teach and how we learn. Such a perspective was made clear during the pandemic when a majority of both K-12 and postsecondary schools were required to move online. While students often know how to use cutting edge technologies for personal growth, they lack knowledge and experience in teaching or learning with innovative tools. Students in education are often only required to take one Educational Technology (ETEC) class, with the expectation that their content courses will also teach them how to implement technology in multiple settings. Students outside of education may be supporting teaching and learning across the lifespan, but do not currently have the ability to minor in ETEC. Those outside of the university may have never had the chance to learn about technology with innovative technologies—something they are required to do in their existing jobs. The minor in Teaching and Learning with Technology addresses this gap.
Students will acquire the knowledge and concrete skills to deploy educational technology theories and strategies to multiple fields – education, public health, communication – serving education institutions, communication-related companies, public health entities, etc. Non-education students will access the most recent best practices in educational technology, applying them in their own field of reference and beyond. Education students will strengthen their know-how in learning innovations while being exposed to interdisciplinary stimuli and references, expanding their professional and academic horizon. To summarize, this program will help students succeed in the increasingly interconnected field of educational technology across multiple sectors and professions.
