Our approach is based on the premise that a thorough understanding of brain health across the lifespan is essential as a window into prevention and treatment of brain disease.

Working together with partners in academic medicine that include Northeast Ohio Medical University, Cleveland Clinic and Akron Children’s Hospital, our goal is to translate basic discoveries into new treatments and care for brain and nervous system diseases.

The Institute serves as a vehicle for multi-disciplinary and cross-institutional collaboration in neuroscience research, breaking down traditional boundaries and bringing together faculty, students and health care professionals to help answer some of the most pressing questions of our time.

We are equally committed to training the next generation of neuroscientists at undergraduate, graduate and postdoctoral levels, so that they have the tools and skills necessary to make the next transformative steps in our understanding of the brain, truly one of the final frontiers.

Private philanthropy will help propel our research and discoveries. Please join us as we work to transform the future of brain knowledge.

With appreciation and best regards,

  • Enhancing Academic Programs and Research
    • Undergraduate Fellows Program - Fellowships offer first-and second-year students an immersive program that enhances the recruitment and retention of the most highly qualified and motivated undergraduates who are interested in pursuing neuroscience research at KSU.
    • Pilot Grant Program - This program supports cutting edge research to promote brain health in people of all ages, innovative training programs for the next generation of doctors and scientists, and outreach programs that benefit our local community and beyond.
    • Endowed Chairs and Professorships - Endowed positions are permanently supplemented by the revenue generated from an endowed fund, created thanks to the generosity of donors. Endowed chairs and professorships also often provide the holder with additional funds for research, equipment or other support. Endowed positions are crucial for recruiting and retaining the highest-quality faculty, and donor support for endowed positions makes a lasting impact on the university and our students.
  • Enhancing Research and Educational Spaces - Integrated Sciences Building Construction/Equipment  -  The lower level of this building will be finished to include research “collaboratories,” laboratories and space for student instruction. Funds will also be used to purchase necessary research equipment.
  • Director’s Development Fund - General support will be used at the discretion of the director to support a variety of needs on behalf of the institute, its research and its students. This type of donor support allows us to be nimble and proactive when needs arise.
