Doris Kimble Family Honored During ֱ State Tuscarawas Toast to Education

ֱ State University at Tuscarawas recently honored the Doris Kimble family as the Toast to Education Award recipient for their tireless dedication to and support of education and our community.

The Kimble family has been an impactful force in the Tuscarawas Valley in business and charitable giving over the years and has helped make the region a better place to live, work and study.

Doris Kimble, who sadly passed away last year, founded the Kimble Company in 1948, with her late husband Floyd. Over the years, the company has evolved to be a leader in the waste collection and recycling industry. With five locations in Ohio, Kimble provides local careers for nearly 1,000 employees.

Through the Doris and Floyd Kimble Foundation, the family has transformed our community with investment in area schools, charities, civic organizations and numerous humanitarian efforts. For the Tuscarawas Campus specifically, the family has generously supported the construction of the Science and Advanced Technology Center and the Performing Arts Center while contributing to various other campus projects and programs. An endowment scholarship fund for campus students was also established by the family.

The Doris Kimble family includes daughter Jo Elaine (Rick) Mako of New Philadelphia; sons – Greg (Barbara) Kimble of Dover, Gary Kimble of Uhrichsville, Keith (Kathy) Kimble of Dover, and Eric “Rick” (Deborah Haswell) Kimble of Dover; 19 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.

“The Tuscarawas Campus is so grateful to the Doris Kimble family,” ֱ State Tuscarawas Dean and Chief Administrative Officer Brad Bielski said. “They are true believers in our hometown and strive to make it even better. Their legacy will be cherished for many years to come!”

The Toast to Education Gala, hosted at the Performing Arts Center, is a wine and culinary experience celebrating the passion for education. The elegant event supports scholarships, student opportunities and youth educational experiences enriching the vitality of our community. Next year’s gala is planned for March 29, 2025!
