Remembering Alumnus Ken Howard
The School of Theatre and Dance remembers the late Ken Howard.
Ken Howard graduated from Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ State University in 1999 with a Master of Fine Arts in Acting as the School of Theatre and Dance's first returning professional.
"Ken Howard's passion to return to higher education and examine his life's work through graduate study brought him to Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ State in the late 1990s," said Eric van Baars, School of Theatre and Dance interim director. "His plan of study set the foundation for the School of Theatre and Dance's current returning professional program. The entire School of Theatre and Dance sends condolences to his family."
Howard was elected president of the Screen Actors Guild in 2009. Following SAG's merger with the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists in 2012, a project Howard helped spearhead, he became president of the newly formed SAG-AFTRA. Howard was re-elected president of SAG-AFTRA in 2013 and 2015.
A Tony and Emmy Award-winning theatre, film and television actor, Howard is best known for his role in the groundbreaking CBS drama "The White Shadow." He also appeared on Broadway in "1776," "Child's Play," "Seesaw," "Rumors," and "Promises, Promises." Howard's film and television credits include "1776," "Clear and Present Danger," "Michael Clayton," "Grey Gardens," "30 Rock," and "Crossing Jordan."
