I have another commitment (prom, track championship, etc.) that will prevent me from attending the Interview Day. Can I still apply?
We understand that you may have extenuating circumstances and commitments that may prevent you from attending the Interview Day. Therefore, virtual interviews will be conducted for those invited to attend the in-person interviews. The virtual interview spots are limited and reserved for those who have an extenuating circumstance that prevents them from attending in person (I.e., Living out of state).
We ask that if your conflict is not pressing and can be rescheduled or re-arranged, please do so. We will be contacting students who have a completed application with their status for the in-person interview via your Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ State email address. Should you be selected for an interview, please follow the instructions on the letter to arrange a virtual interview.

I have decided to attend a regional campus (i.e. Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ State at Trumbull) instead of the Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ campus. Can I still be in the program?
The Provost’s Leadership Academy is only for students enrolled at the Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ campus. Students enrolled in the PLA program will become familiar with resources and staff on the Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ campus and will be working on resolving areas of concern specific to this campus. If you choose to enroll at one of our regional campuses, we highly recommend talking with their Student Services Office to learn about leadership and involvement opportunities at their respective campuses.

My student will be studying abroad and will not be back for the on-campus interview. Will this prevent them from participating in the Interview Day?

The website says that I will need a current resume. Where do I submit it?
Resumes are necessary for those students who are selected for an in-person interview. Bring the resume with you to the On Campus Interview Day. Should you arrange for a virtual interview, you can email your resume after being notified of your selection.

How will I know if my recommender submitted the application? How will I know my application is complete?
Once your application is complete, you will receive an email indicating that Student Success Programs has received your completed application.
The person you choose to serve as a reference for you will receive an email notification prompting them to complete the reference form on your behalf. You are welcome to follow up with your reference after submitting your completed application.
Depending upon when your application is considered complete, you may not hear from us for a few weeks. It is important to check your email (for now both preferred and Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ State) regularly as this is how we will notify you of your status.

If all of my application materials are submitted, do I just show up at the Interview Day?
No, please do not show up to Interview Day unless you have received an invitation from the Office of Student Success Programs. You will receive an email with our decision and prompting you with next steps. We publish the interview date well in advance to give our applicants the opportunity to make the necessary arrangements to participate. We cannot stress enough how important it is to check your email regularly.

How will I know more information about where the PLA Interviews are being held?
Those who are invited to participate in the PLA Interview Day will be notified through email. In this email, it will include directions and more specific information on the details of the PLA Interview Day. Again, it is important to check your email regularly.

Will I get the book award (FLASHcash) in enough time to buy my books before KSU Kickoff?
The book award will not be dispersed until May after completion of the PLA program. Only members of the Provost’s Leadership Academy who successfully complete the program will receive the book award. No money or scholarship will be distributed before the program is successfully completed.

What are examples of campus change initiative projects PLA members can focus on?
The projects for the Provost’s Leadership Academy members will be determined by their individual groups. The members are broken into groups and will work together to identify projects to improve the University for all KSU students. They will then be charged with researching those areas in more depth and producing project proposals to present to the Provost (Chief Academic Officer of the University). The final decision of which project to pursue rests solely with the members of the academy. Some projects that the members of PLA have considered in the past are:

Recycling/donating excess food from cafeterias on campus

Event Board/Marquee on outside of campus to announce events

How much time will members of the PLA have to commit to the program?
Members of PLA will generally spend no more than three (3) hours per week involved in activities and meetings for the program. Meetings will be every Monday for two hours. Due to the size of the teams, no one member should be required to do a majority of the group’s work. Every member of the PLA groups must contribute to the final project. The PLA Mentors will help guide and facilitate this process and assure equal distribution of the workload. Unless the members decide on it, there will be little work needed outside of scheduled PLA hours.
