He Yin
Biography
Dr. Yin is an Assistant Professor of Geography at Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ State University, where he heads the Remote Sensing and Land Science Lab (). Before joining KSU in 2020, He was a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and a senior researcher at the Center for Development Research (ZEF), University of Bonn in Germany.
His research focuses on understanding the dynamic changes in land systems using remote sensing techniques and interdisciplinary approaches. Dr. Yin serves as the principal investigator on projects funded by various organizations including NASA, Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, and the Center for International Forestry Research (CIFOR). His research spans a diverse range of topics, including armed conflicts, cropland abandonment, grassland management, forest mapping, and issues on equity and environmental justice (EEJ). His recent research examining the impact of the 2023 Israel-Hamas War on agricultural lands in Gaza has been featured in media outlets such as , , , , , among others. Ultimately, his goal is to promote sustainable and equitable land use practices that can benefit our natural environment and society.
He has published more than 40 publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals. He currently serves as coordinator of the Global Land Programme (GLP) Working Group "Agricultural Land Abandonment as a Global Land-Use Change Phenomenon".
