Elizabeth Howard, an award-winning instructor in the Honors College Freshman Honors Colloquium, passed away on April 10th, 2021. Dr. Howard’s contributions to the Honors College and ֱ State University meant much to our students and colleagues over the years. In addition to teaching Freshman Honors Colloquium, she taught advanced classes in Honors and advised many Honors theses. In her honor and with an aim to continue her interests in Honors education at ֱ State, the Honors College seeks donors to help fund a scholarship in her name. Please consider making a gift of any amount to her scholarship (see link below).
Elizabeth Howard’s passion for the English Language, its cultural beginnings, its history and its literature, was part of who she was: she worked untiringly to introduce students through language to the rich life of the mind. Her devotion to her students was great, her friendship everlasting, and her knowledge far-reaching. Her joyous sense of humor, her generous outpouring of her time and her tremendous love of adventure were felt by all of us, and she will be sorely missed. Elizabeth contributed much to the Honors College, not only through her excellent teaching, but through her scholarly expertise and her service on the Honors College Policy Council for many years. Most of all, her FHC students will long remember their journeys together through the Iliad and her pleasure in the delight of others discovering the modern links to that ancient story.
Elizabeth was known throughout the university and the ֱ community, not just through the classroom. Her kindness and generous spirit were experienced by people in many walks of life.
As a memorial and a celebration of her life, we are establishing an Honors Scholarship in her name. If you would like to contribute any amount to this scholarship, you can do so on the webpage. The link will allow you to contribute funds by credit card or Paypal.
To contribute via check, please make it out to ֱ State University Foundation and add “Elizabeth Howard Memorial Honors Scholarship” in the memo line. Please include your address and telephone number. Gifts can be mailed to:
