Mary Ann Stephens and John R. Graham Award

The Mary Ann Stephens and John R. Graham Award for Excellence in Graduate Research and Scholarship is presented annually to doctoral student(s). Normally, two awards are made each year and are based on the merit of the applicant's contribution to research and scholarship.

Criteria:

  • Must be a currently enrolled full-time doctoral student.
  • U.S. citizen (or national) or a permanent resident of the U.S.
  • Preference will be given to applicants from STEM disciplines (as defined by the National Science Foundation) pursuing a Doctor of Philosophy degree, applicants who have faced socioeconomic or personal obstacles to enrolling in graduate school. Examples include being the first generation in their family to attend a university; facing significant socioeconomic challenges due to their personal history; being registered with the Office of Student Accessibility Services; or demonstrating high financial need on their FAFSA.

Award:

Recipients receive a $500 monetary award.

Application and Selection Processes:

Submit electronic application by February 15 for consideration for the following year. The completed application should include a scholarship statement, a curriculum vitae (CV) or resume, and a letter of recommendation from a dissertation advisor detailing accomplishments in research and scholarship in the discipline. All materials must be received by the deadline.

Applications are reviewed by a committee comprised of faculty representing various ranks and disciplines. The recipient is selected by the Dean of the Graduate College.
