Northeast Ohio Presidents' Cup Tournament Supports Scholarships at Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ State Trumbull

Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ State, Youngstown State and University of Akron compete in Second Annual Northeast Ohio Presidents' Cup

On Monday, June 27, Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ State University participated in the second annual Northeast Ohio Presidents’ Cup. The event promoted collaborative spirit among Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ State, Youngstown State University and the University of Akron, while serving as a scholarship fundraiser for all three institutions. This year’s event was hosted by Youngstown State and took place at the Avalon Golf and Country Club in Warren. Participants competed in a Ryder Cup-style golf tournament, followed by a reception and dinner. Youngstown State won the tournament, with the University of Akron finishing second and Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ State third.

Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ State President Beverly Warren, Youngstown State President Jim Tressel and University of Akron Athletic Director Larry Williams addressed dinner attendees, each emphasizing the value the universities bring to Northeast Ohio and their continued mission to provide affordable education.

Monies raised are divided among the schools and used for scholarship assistance. Because the event took place in Trumbull County, funds raised by Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ State remain within the Mahoning Valley and support scholarships at the Trumbull Campus.

The Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ State University Board of Trustees today established a comprehensive, national search to recruit and select the university’s 13th president.

The events of May 4, 1970, placed Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ State University in an international spotlight after a student protest against the Vietnam War and the presence of the Ohio National Guard ended in tragedy with four students losing their lives and nine others being wounded. From a perspective of nearly 50 years, Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ State remembers the tragedy and leads a contemporary discussion and understanding of how the community, nation and world can benefit from understanding the profound impact of the event.
