Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ State Recognizes Its 4.0 Student-Athletes

Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ State University's Department of Intercollegiate Athletics held its third annual 4.0 GPA Student-Athlete Breakfast on Feb. 2 in the Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ Student Center Ballroom Balcony. Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ State University student-athletes with a 4.0 GPA celebrate their academic achievement with Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ State President Beverly Warren (front row, ninth from left) at a breakfast held in the Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ Student Center Ballroom Balcony.

"We are tremendously proud of and inspired by the success of our student-athletes who demonstrate time and time again that excellence can be achieved both in and out of the classroom," says President Beverly Warren. "This is also an outcome of an athletics leadership team, coaching and support staff who prioritize academic excellence as a hallmark of our Division I athletics program."

A total of 59 student-athletes who achieved a 4.0 grade point average (GPA) in the fall or spring semester of 2016 were invited to celebrate their academic achievement alongside Warren and Director of Athletics Joel Nielsen. The 59 student-athletes boasting perfect GPAs represent more than10 percent of Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ State's student-athlete population.

Collectively, this group averages a 3.939 cumulative GPA and represents 16 of Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ State's varsity athletic programs, spanning 42 different majors.

"The young men and women recognized today continue to set the academic standard for our department," Nielsen says. "Their individual success serves as a testament to the outstanding support of the Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ State faculty, coaching staff and academic support team in the Jenkins Academic Resource Center."
