I received both my Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees here at Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ State, with my Bachelor’s being in Interpersonal Communication Studies, and my Master’s being in Higher Education and Student Personnel. I originally made my decision to become an academic advisor during my Junior year of Undergrad when I realized through my experiences as a student leader that I really had a passion for helping students to navigate their way through their collegiate journeys.
It is my personal advising philosophy that every student is the protagonist to their own story and that we, as advisors, are merely supporting characters meant to act as guides to the student’s journey (for me, I often use the comparison that the advisor is the Gandalf to the student’s Frodo Baggins). In the end, however, the onus is on the student to dictate how their story is written.
It was through my own experiences and connections that I made at Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ State that I was able to work towards where I am today. My hope is to pay forward the support I was fortunate enough to receive to every student I encounter!
