College of Aeronautics and Engineering Scholarships

Applications for all scholarships offered by the College of Aeronautics and Engineering (CAE) are accepted roughly October 1 through roughly February 1 unless otherwise noted. Scholarship recipients will be notified during the spring term of the current academic year, and all awards will be applied to the following fall and spring term(s).

To get started, you’ll need to complete a Student Profile in ScholarshipUniverse. The questions you’ll be asked to answer will help match you to scholarships. While you don’t have to answer all of these questions – the more you answer, the better your search results will be.

Applications for the upcoming academic year become available the first Monday of October with a deadline of the first Friday of February, annually.

In order to maintain scholarship eligibility students must be registered as a full-time Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ campus student (must be registered for a minimum of 12 credit hours of Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ campus coursework).

Adam M. McFarland Memorial Scholarship

An incoming student in the College of Aeronautics and Engineering (any major) with a high school GPA of at least 3.0. Preference given to a first-generation, minority student from either a Portage County or Cuyahoga County high school. This scholarship is renewable as long as the recipient maintains a 2.75 GPA at Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ State and performs yearly community service, with distributions as follows for a four-year period: $1,000 for the first year; $1,500 for the second year; $1,750 for the third year, and $2,250 for the fourth year. There is also an experiential learning/community volunteer expectation for renewal. .

This scholarship will be awarded to one (1) student that fits these criteria. 

Award amount: Distributes in a four-year period: 

  • $1,000 for the first year
  • $1,500 for the second year
  • $1,750 for the third year
  • $2,250 for the fourth year

Aviation Scholarship Fund

Awarded to full-time Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ State University Students who are actively pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Aeronautics in any of the four areas of concentration accredited by the Aviation Accreditation Board International (AABI). Priority for this scholarship will be afforded applicants who have demonstrated leadership potential. Consideration will also be given to need and academic achievement based on input from the Aeronautics Program Coordinator as well as the aeronautics faculty as applicable.

This scholarship will be awarded to one (1) student that fits these criteria.

Brooks And Mary Weingart Endowed Scholarship Fund

Recipients should meet the minimum requirements to receive financial aid from Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ State University. Must be a sophomore and have a minimum 3.25 cumulative grade point average. Renewable up to two additional times.

This scholarship will be awarded to one (1) student that fits these criteria.

Clinton Van Deusen Scholarship

The Clinton Van Deusen scholarship is available to students pursuing a major in Applied Engineering in the College of Aeronautics and Engineering.

This scholarship will be awarded to one (1) student that fits these criteria.

David McFarland Memorial Scholarship

Awarded to a full-time Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ State University student pursuing a baccalaureate degree in any major in the Aeronautics program in the College of Aeronautics and Engineering. The recipient must demonstrate financial need through completion of the FAFSA form in the Office of Student Financial Aid. The scholarship is renewable as long as the recipient maintains a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 for the duration of the time he or she receives the scholarship.

This scholarship will be awarded to one (1) student that fits these criteria.

Dr. Charles Keith Endowed Memorial Scholarship 

Awarded to sophomore, junior or senior student pursuing degree in technology, applied engineering, or other industrial program with priority given to students from Ohio. The award may be applied to tuition, room and board, and books and supplies.

This scholarship will be awarded to one (1) student that fits these criteria.

Dr. Guion S. Bluford , Jr. Minority Aeronautics Scholarship

Awarded to graduating high school seniors who will be incoming Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ State University student enrolled in the College of Aeronautics and Engineering. Preference will be given to African American or Hispanic students with an interested in Aerospace Engineering or another Aeronautics related degree. Recipients shall have a minimum non-weighted high school grade point average of 3.5. This award is renewable for 3 additional years by maintaining full-time status with a minimum grade point average of 3.0. Recipients must maintain an affiliation with a professional organization in their area of study.

This scholarship will be awarded to one (1) student that fits these criteria.

Gary Rich Applied Engineering Scholarship

Eligible student must be an Applied Engineering major from Ohio who best demonstrates the attributes that will enable a student to become a successful engineer as reflected in the vision of Dr. Darwin Boyd.

This scholarship will be awarded to one (1) student that fits these criteria.

Michael S. Dragomier Endowed Scholarship

Must be a full-time Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ State University student who is enrolled in courses at Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ campus majoring in Applied Engineering. The recipient must be a current member of the American Foundry Society, and be recommended by the current Foundry Educational Foundation Key Professor.

This scholarship will be awarded to one (1) student that fits these criteria.

Nikki Kukwa Memorial Scholarship For Women In Aeronautics

This scholarship was established to assist female students pursuing the Bachelor of Science in Aeronautics with funds to supplement tuition, books, or other necessary materials associated with costs related to their program of study.  Recipients shall be selected on the basis of the following criteria: minimum junior standing in the Aeronautics major in the College of Aeronautics and Engineering, demonstrated financial need verifiable by FAFSA, a letter of recommendation from the Academic Program Director, Aeronautics Division, CAE, and participation in Women in Aviation, and/or student organizations related to the major.

This scholarship will be awarded to one (1) student that fits these criteria.

Paul J. Conley Scholarship

The Paul J. Conley Scholarship is awarded to outstanding students in the College of Aeronautics and Engineering. Eligible students include incoming freshman, returning freshman, sophomore, juniors and seniors.

This scholarship will be awarded to one (1) student that fits these criteria.

Richard F. "Dick" Schwabe Endowed Scholarship

This scholarship shall be awarded to a student enrolled in the B.S. in Aeronautics, Professional Pilot concentration program. Applicants must have at least a 3.0 GPA, be at least Junior (earned minimum of 60 credit hours), have obtained their private pilot's license, and be a professional pilot major. Preference is given to first-generation pilots. Student recipients must demonstrate financial need through the completion of the FAFSA form; form must be on file with Student Financial Aid. 


Additional Essay: Please prepare a one-page, single-spaced essay titled "The Love of Flying"; upload and submit in this form.

Robert G. Sines, Jr. Veterans Scholarship for Aeronautics

A Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ State student who is a United States Veteran of the Armed Forces who was honorably discharged and can provide proof of discharge through a DD214 form or presently serving in the Armed Forces, Reserves, or National Guard. The recipient is required to show proof through valid military identification. The scholarship recipient must be majoring in Aeronautics. It is preferred that first priority goes to a student pursuing a degree in the Professional Pilot concentration. The student must be in good academic standing and maintain a grade point average of 3.0 or better.  

This scholarship will be awarded to one (1) student that fits these criteria.

Robert Sines Aviation Scholarship

Awarded to U.S. Armed Forces Veteran with Honorable Discharge not eligible for 9/11 benefits pursuing degree in Aeronautics with a concentration in Flight Technology. Should the applicant pool not yield a qualified candidate a United States Armed Forces veteran with an honorable discharge would be eligible. DD 214 required to prove eligibility.

This scholarship will be awarded to one (1) student that fits these criteria.

The Cafaro Endowed Scholarship For Innovation

Eligible students must be enrolled in the College of Aeronautics and Engineering. Preference shall be given to Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ State University students who are residents of Trumbull County but will be limited, in all cases to residents of Trumbull, Mahoning, or Portage counties. Students must have minimum sophomore standing and a minimum 2.5 cumulative grade point average is required.

This scholarship will be awarded to one (1) student that fits these criteria.

The Edward and Patricia Bloebaum Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship shall be awarded to a student from an underrepresented minority with a military affiliation pursuing a degree within the College of Aeronautics and Engineering with a preference given to a student from the Hispanic/Latino community. 

This scholarship will be awarded to one (1) student that fits these criteria.

Award amount: $1,000 

The Jim "SeaBass" Sebastian Endowed Scholarship

This scholarship shall be awarded to an outstanding student who has demonstrated a passion for aviation and desires to become a professional pilot. Applicants must have at least a 3.0 GPA, be at least a sophomore, have obtained their private pilot's license, and be a professional pilot major. Preference is given to first-generation pilots. Consideration is given to students involved with KSU aviation programs or activities such as KSU Precision Flight Team, flying club officers, program safety representatives, or other on or off-campus leadership and volunteer activities. 

This scholarship will be awarded to one (1) student that fits these criteria. 

Award amount: $1,000 

The Leland Keller Scholarship Award

The Leland Keller Scholar Award is awarded annually to two (2) incoming freshman students pursuing any major in the College of Aeronautics and Engineering. Students must remain enrolled in the College of Aeronautics and Engineering for the entire award year, or forfeit the award. Minimum 3.25 cumulative GPA, 25 ACT composite, or 1130 combined critical reading and math on SAT. The amount of the award is $1,500.00 for the academic year.

This scholarship will be awarded to one (1) student that fits these criteria.

The Palcho Family Aeronautics Scholarship 

Preference shall be given for students with a GPA between 2.5 and 3.0, who have obtained their private pilot license and are enrolled in the Flight Technology (Professional Pilot) Program. Preference shall be given to first generation students. Students will be chosen annually based on these criteria and an essay asking the following: "What motivated you to pursue aviation? Explain why you need this scholarship and how it will help you reach your goals." Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ State University has the final selection authority for this scholarship.

This scholarship will be awarded to one (1) student that fits these criteria. 

Theodore J. Orris Endowed Scholarship 

This scholarship shall be awarded to a student in the flight program in the College of Aeronautics and Engineering with a minimum GPA of 3.0. Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ State University has the final selection authority for this scholarship.

This scholarship will be awarded to one (1) student that fits these criteria. 

Award amount: $2,500 

The Allen L. and Terri L. Maurer Fund for Flight Training

The Allen L. and Terri L. Maurer Fund for Flight Training will be awarded to a full-time Aeronautics major pursuing the Flight Technology concentration to supplement tuition, books, or other necessary materials. To be eligible for consideration, applicants must have a cumulative 3.0 grade point average, attained a private pilot's license, demonstrated financial need, and submit an essay on "My Love of Flying," as well as a letter of recommendation from the Aeronautics Program Director, College of Aeronautics and Engineering with their application for scholarship. 

This scholarship will be awarded to one (1) student that fits these criteria.

Thomas H. Hodanovac Endowed Scholarship Fund

The recipient of the scholarship will be a full-time student enrolled in the Bachelor of Science in Aeronautics. Award based on merit and academic achievement.  Students must maintain a minimum of 2.5 cumulative grade point average.

This scholarship will be awarded to one (1) student that fits these criteria.
