The Division of Information Technology needs your help in taking steps to ensure the security of your personal information and university data. Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ State University has been rolling out an important security upgrade, called multi-factor authentication (MFA), to all Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ State accounts.
MFA provides an important level of protection for the personal information of all our students, past and present, and will help us to avoid future security incidents. If you are unfamiliar with MFA, it is similar to the extra login security step you may take with online banking, for example. You can find out more at SecureMyAccount.kent.edu.
To support this critical security measure, MFA will be enabled on all alumni accounts starting Monday, March 9.
You will be prompted to set up your MFA. You will have 14 days to complete the set-up at your convenience. On the 14th day, you will be required to complete the set-up process before accessing Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ State services, such as email and FlashLine. If you have already set up MFA, you will not see any prompts.
What You Should Know
- You can choose to receive MFA alerts via the Microsoft Authenticator mobile app or texting. The mobile app is encouraged as it works better in some scenarios, especially involving international travel. You will not be required to verify your identity every time you log in. Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ State’s MFA uses a multitude of variables to monitor the security of your login before sending an alert.
What You Should Do When You Receive the Prompt to Set Up MFA:
- Use a laptop or desktop computer to complete the initial set-up.
- Have your mobile device with you during set-up to scan a QR code and install the mobile app. During set-up of the mobile app, you will need to allow access to your mobile device's camera when asked.
