Douglas J. DeFouw Jr. is a senior from Spartanburg, South Carolina majoring in Flight Technology. DeFouw came to Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ State in 2012 and since then has made the most out of his college career. Shortly into his freshman year, DeFouw joined the Air Force ROTC. In March 2015, DeFouw Jr. received his Instrument Rating from Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ State’s Flight Technology program. He also earned an Enrollment Allocation from the United States Air Force allowing him to attend Air Force ROTC Field Training. DeFouw recently graduated from Field Training as a superior performer (top 20%).
During his time in Air Force ROTC, DeFouw has worked as a Flight Commander, supervising multiple cadets. In addition, DeFouw created and lead the first Air Force ROTC Relay for Life team. The team raised over $4000 for cancer over two years. He has been awarded the Air Force ROTC Achievement Award, American Legion of General Military Excellence Award, two Recruiting Awards, Cadet of the Semester (two consecutive semesters), Field Training Superior Performer, the Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ State Leadership Excellence award and the Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ State Distinguished Junior Student Leader of the Year.
DeFouw hopes to serve as a pilot in the United States Air Force and is on track to graduate from Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ State and commission in the Air Force in May of 2017.
