Transfer Student Requirements

Admission to the Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ Campus as a transfer student is selective. The Admissions Office uses multiple factors to carefully review each applicant and make our admissions decisions.

Admissions Criteria & Requirements

To apply to the Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ State University Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ Campus as a transfer applicant, you should:

  • Attend any educational institution after graduating from high school.

  • Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0 on a 4.0 scale.

  • Complete an application for admission.

  • Pay the non-refundable $50 application fee.

 


Application Materials

You should prepare the following items to submit to Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ State for consideration. Your application and all required materials must be submitted seven days before the start of the semester.

Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ State University offers two ways to apply: the or the . The choice is yours! Complete and submit an application, then pay the non-refundable $50 application fee. Pay attention to application priority deadlines such as the ones listed below.

Transcripts

College Transcripts

Transfer students need to submit official transcripts from every college or university they have attended, even if they feel credit will not be transferable.

High School Transcripts

Applicants with fewer than 12 semester hours of college coursework (excluding college credits earned in high school) should also submit an official high school transcript. Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ State recently adopted a test-optional policy, so ACT or SAT test scores are optional. Some regional campuses may have additional requirements; please contact your admitting unit.

Transferring Credits

All college-level courses taken at a regionally accredited Ohio college or university will transfer with a grade of D or better if taken in fall 2005 or later. Ohio courses taken prior to fall 2005 will transfer with a grade of C or better. All college-level courses taken at a regionally accredited non-Ohio college or university and international credit will transfer with a grade of D or better if taken in fall 2010 or later. For courses taken prior to fall 2010, out-of-state courses and international credit will transfer with a grade of C or better.

Academic Program-Specific Materials

AEROSPACE ENGINEERING 

Transfer students who wish to be admitted to the Aerospace Engineering program must have completed a minimum 12 semester hours in college-level coursework with a minimum 3.2 cumulative GPA and have earned a minimum B grade in MATH 12002 Analytic Geometry and Calculus I and PHY 23101 General University Physics I (or their equivalents).

Transfer applicants who have completed less than 12 semester hours of college-level coursework will be evaluated on both collegiate and high school records and must submit a final high school transcript and an ACT or SAT score.

ARCHITECTURE - B.S.

A transfer student with a 3.00 cumulative GPA or above will be considered for direct admission after a holistic review of their completed coursework. Students who would like to be considered for review for this program should submit a Petition for Admission into the B.S. in Architecture or the B.A. in Interior Design. The deadline for petition is dependent on the term in which the student is transferring and will be posted and updated here. BUSINESS

A cumulative GPA of at least 2.50 (2.25 for Economics and Entrepreneurship) is required for admission into the Ambassador Crawford College of Business and Entrepreneurship. Students who have previously attended Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ State must also have a minimum 2.50 GPA (2.25 for Economics and Entrepreneurship) in their former Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ State coursework.

CYBERSECURITY ENGINEERING

Admission into the Cybersecurity Engineering program requires a minimum of 12 credit hours in college-level work with a minimum 3.2 overall GPA and a minimum B grade in MATH 12002 and PHY23101 (or equivalents). Transfer students who have completed less than 12 credit hours of college-led coursework will be evaluated on collegiate and high school records and must submit a final high school transcript and an ACT or SAT score.

DANCE PERFORMANCE/DANCE STUDIES

Students must audition before being admitted to the Dance program. Detailed audition information and dates can be found here. Inquiries can be directed to the School of Theatre and Dance director at 330-672-2069 or dance@kent.edu.

EDUCATION

To qualify for a teacher education program, transfer applicants must have a minimum GPA of 2.75 in all college coursework. Students who have previously attended Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ State must also have a minimum 2.75 GPA in their former Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ State coursework

FASHION DESIGN & FASHION MERCHANDISING 

To be considered for admission, transfer applicants need at least a 2.75 cumulative GPA based on 24 or more semester hours of college-level coursework at an accredited institution. Those students meeting this GPA requirement but with less than 24 semester hours will be evaluated according to the new first-year criteria.

INTERIOR DESIGN 

A transfer applicant must have a 2.5 cumulative GPA based on a minimum of 12 semester hours of college-level coursework to be admitted into the Interior Design major. Students from CIDA-recognized interior design programs should have achieved the minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA and must submit a portfolio to the director of the program for review. Students who would like to be considered for review for this program should submit a Petition for Admission into the B.S. in Architecture or the B.A. in Interior Design. The deadline for petition is dependent on the term in which the student is transferring and will be posted and updated here. MECHATRONICS ENGINEERING

Transfer students who wish to be admitted to the Mechatronics Engineering program must have completed a minimum of 12 semester hours in college-level coursework with a minimum 3.2 cumulative GPA and have earned a minimum B grade in MATH 12002 Analytic Geometry and Calculus I and PHY 23101 General University Physics I (or their equivalents).

Transfer applicants who have completed less than 12 semester hours of college-level coursework will be evaluated on both collegiate and high school records and must submit a final high school transcript and an ACT or SAT score.

MUSIC

MUSICAL THEATRE 

Students must audition before being admitted to the B.F.A. degree program in Musical Theatre. Detailed audition information and dates can be found here. Inquiries can be directed to the School of Theatre and Dance at 330-672-2082 or theatre@kent.edu.

NURSING

All transfer applicants to the College of Nursing must submit both college and high school transcripts. Enrollment in the sophomore sequence is limited and begins only in the fall semester each year. Preference will be given to applicants who have at least a 2.75 (on a 4.0 scale) GPA or higher, both as a cumulative average and in the following first-year sciences:

  • BSCI 21010 Anatomy and Physiology I
  • BSCI 21020 Anatomy and Physiology II
  • BSCI 20021 Basic Microbiology
  • CHEM 10050 Fundamentals of Chemistry*
  • CHEM 10055 Molecules for Life*

The transfer applicant must have completed the first-year sciences and the math requirement for the nursing program. Students should have completed 12 semester hours or more of college-level coursework. Students should contact the College of Nursing regarding special information and deadlines by calling 330-672-7930.

*Please complete the equivalent of either CHEM 10050 or CHEM 10055.

SPEECH PATHOLOGY & AUDIOLOGY 

To qualify for the Speech Pathology and Audiology major, transfer applicants need at least a 3.00 cumulative GPA based on 12 or more semester hours of college-level coursework from an accredited institution. Those students meeting this GPA requirement with less than 12 semester hours will be evaluated according to the new first-year criteria.

Transition from a Regional Campus

If you are currently attending a Regional Campus of Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ State and are considering the Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ Campus in a future semester, there are many resources available to ensure a successful transition. There is no additional application required. In order to obtain the best possible foundation for academic success, we recommend that you complete the following minimum academic achievements before transitioning to the Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ Campus:

  • Successfully complete any developmental coursework as prescribed by an academic advisor.
  • Successfully complete 12 semester hours of coursework.
  • Achieve a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.00.

Former Students

Are you returning to Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ State? If you’ve taken classes at Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ State University in the past, excluding coursework taken during high school or after graduating high school, you might not need to apply for admission. Learn more.

Dismissal Admission Policy

Applicants who have been dismissed from another college or university will not be considered for admission unless the students are eligible to return to that previous institution, have been out of college at least 12 consecutive months since the dismissal, or have completed at least 12 semester hours of credit at another institution with a cumulative GPA of 2.000 or better (on a scale of 4.000).

Scholarships for Transfer Students

Access a list of merit transfer scholarships, which are awarded automatically to students after they are admitted to Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ State University and all transcripts from previous institutions have been received and evaluated.

Note: Transfer scholarships are competitive and funding is limited.
